NYC Couple Shoot

Parthvi & Vinay

5 min read

I recently had the pleasure of taking engagement photos for my dear friend and fellow Husky from Northeastern University. Despite the physical exhaustion that comes with a professional couple shoot, this session was a special gift for their upcoming wedding. These two incredible humans embody couple goals, and I couldn’t be happier to be a part of their journey.

THE PLAN

Just like every other professional shoot I have done in the past, this one involved meticulous planning. We created a Google Sheet where we made a moodboard discussing outfits, makeup, timing, location, and the assistance that would be required for the shoot. The big day finally arrived, and I took a bus near the Prudential Center in Boston, reaching New York by 2 PM. My friend Parthvi came to pick me up near the WTC and surprised me with some wholesome home-cooked lunch and a warm hug. We made a stop at her brother’s place where we enjoyed some hot dosas with three different chutneys and an insanely good homemade mango ice cream, all thanks to her sweetheart sister-in-law. After indulging in food and conversation, we finally sat down to map out the details for the shoot the next morning.

BROOKLYN BRIDGE

On the day of the shoot, Parthvi woke up at 4 AM to prepare for our sunrise shot on the Brooklyn Bridge. Although we missed the subway by a minute, our improvised plan of taking a cab led us to a stunning bridge location. Despite the absent sunrise, I worked my post-production magic to create dramatic shots with a beautifully lit sky. Parthvi’s cousin was kind enough to volunteer to help out with the shoot, saving me a ton of time when I needed help changing the telephoto lens to a wide-angle lens.

We explored Dumbo and the shore close by, managing to capture the Manhattan skyline and bridge in the background. Surprisingly, the sun emerged, providing us with a few sunny shots. Although it was deceptively warm, my fingers froze, making it difficult to click pictures after a while. But seeing the cute proposal shots Vinay staged, I couldn’t stop myself from taking a whole bunch of photos. After a freezing yet productive session, we took a break for lunch at a nearby pizza place.

THE BEAUTIFUL CENTRAL PARK

Our adventure continued to Central Park, where we hoped to capture the vibrant fall colors. To our surprise, we found some beautiful trees in shades of yellow, red, and green. After a quick change of costumes in Central Park’s washroom, we managed a few more shots in the park. Unfortunately, the iconic fountain was undergoing maintenance, but we made the most of our time around the park before calling it a day. Despite the physical demands and unexpected challenges, the day was filled with laughter, love, and memorable moments.

AKSHARDHAM, NEW JERSEY

Bonus points for making it to the bottom! We also managed to get some beautiful shots at the newly built Akshardham temple. I hope you enjoyed reading and viewing as much as I enjoyed capturing these photographs.
